Balance this intriguing eagle on almost anything you can think of: the
pedestal included, your finger, a tip of a pen, TV or computer monitor,
even your nose! Give it a spin and watch in amazement as it still stays
balanced. A cool science toy that is guaranteed to mystify your friends
or class. It also helps teach the principles of gravity and centre of
mass, and it makes an interesting display.
Eagle has a wingspan of approx. 17cm.
How does it work?
Logic and experience tells you that the eagle will only balance
somewhere around his middle, but impossibly he balances on the very tip
of his beak. The explanation lies in the weights located in the tips of
the bird's wings keeping the center of gravity below its beak (support
point). Try spinning him as fast as possible, he will stay balanced
until centripetal forces eventually win over and the he goes flying off
his support point across the room! HA!
