Information About Amaircare HEPA Air Filtration

"The most undervalued area of asthma therapy is environmental control. When simple steps are taken to eliminate the common irritants and allergens that trigger asthma from the environment, dramatic improvement is a very distinct possibility... HEPA air cleaners remove airborne dust particles."

Prevention Magazine, 1990 - "Rid Your Home of Asthma Bugs"

Amaircare 2500 Air Purifiers Are HEPA Air Filters that Remove Animal Dander, Dust Mites, Lint, Dust, and Other Pollutants to Improve Indoor Air Quality. Helps Those with Asthma or Allergy Problems By Removing Allergy Triggers. Why Choose the Amaircare HEPA Purification System?

Three Stage Filtration Process: Ensures removal of large and sub-micron particles, plus harmful vapors, gases and volatile organic compounds (VOC's).

  • Stage 1: Large particles and V.O.C.'s: 3/16" thick activated carbon 150% impregnated, non-woven, fire retardant, polyester filter media. Removes dust, lint, carpet fiber, etc. (Filter life - 3 to 6 months)

  • Stage 2: Sub-micron particles: 50 square feet of HEPA - 3000 grade borosilicate filter media removes 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns and larger. Ends are sealed in food-grade plastisol. Remove dust mites, lint & animal dander. (Filter life - 2 to 5 years)

  • Stage 3: Activated Charcoal Filter: 1/2" thick activated carbon 200% impregnated non-woven, polyester filter media. Removes asthma triggers such as dangerous household chemical gases from cleaners, paints, solvents, carpets, furniture and other materials containing chemical substances. (Filter life - 6 to 12 months)

Also Available: OPTIONAL ACTIVATED CHARCOAL CANISTER - As V.O.C Removal depends primarily on the amount of carbon in the filter, optional V.O.C. Canisters offer the greatest V.O.C. removal effectiveness.

Low Operating Costs: German-crafted motors are up to four times more efficient than competitive models.

Rolled Steel Construction: Rugged, contemporary styling offers greater durability and filter protection than 'plastic' models. Metal cabinets are non-toxin emitting.

Inner Air Seals: Top and bottom seals to ensure complete filtration and prevent leakage and contamination of purified air.

Highly Efficient Motor/Fan Designed for Continuous Operation: Run tested for 50,000 hours. Thermally protected Class "B" insulated motor.

Optimized Air Flow: To maximize efficiency, cleaned air is vented downward to stir up settled particles, forcing them in an upward circulation pattern. The particles are drawn back into the intake areas of air filters for removal.

Easy-to-Change Filters: Easily removable tops for quick filter changes.

Clean Air Facts
Did You Know?
Key to clean air is using an Amaircare HEPA Filtration Air Cleaner. The quality of the air we breathe, both indoors and out, has a great impact on lung health. Fragile lung tissue is easily damaged by pollutants in the air, resulting in increased risk of asthma and allergies, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.

Air pollution contributes to lung disease, including respiratory tract infections, asthma, and lung cancer. Lung disease claims close to 335,000 lives in America every year and is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Over the last decade, the death rate for lung disease has risen faster than for almost any other major disease.
Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. In addition, it can cause headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea and fatigue. People who already have respiratory diseases are at greater risk.

Biological pollutants, including molds, bacteria, viruses, pollen, dust mites, and animal dander promote poor indoor air quality and may be a major cause of days lost from work and school. In office buildings, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems are frequent sources of biological substances that are inhaled, leading to breathing problems.

Is the Air in Your Home Making You Sick?

Air pollution can aggravate respiratory conditions, cause bodily irritations, sickness and even disease.

The air inside the typical home is up to 5 times more polluted than the air outside. That's because the home is an enclosed environment full of potential sources of air pollution.

There are three main types:
  1. Particulates (air pollutants that have mass) like dust, dander, pollen, and cigarette smoke.
  2. Volatile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.s) which are gases from chemicals that are release into the air by various household materials and liquids.
  3. Bio-Burden is the amount of biological material in the air, living or dead. Dead material can cause allergic reactions, living material can cause allergic reactions, some can cause disease.
There are four main types of air filtration: Look at the filter of an electrostatic air cleaner.
Electrostatic filters attract particles to a statically charged filter or screen.
Look at the filter of an electrostatic air cleaner. Electronic Air Cleaners charge airborne particles to be captured by a series of metal plates.
Look at the filter of an electrostatic air cleaner. Ionizers charge airborne particles causing them to adhere to nearby surfaces such as walls and floors.
Look at the filter of an electrostatic air cleaner. Media filters "strain" suspended particles from the air. This media filter or air filter is a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. This is what the Amaircare Roompure, 2500, 3000 and 4000 contain.

HEPA filtration is the most researched filtration method available in the world today. It's documentation in a wide range of applications assures the user of it's effectiveness

What Is HEPA? HEPA is a filtration standard created by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. HEPA filter media is proven to be 99.97% efficient @ 0.3 microns. Due to their extremely high efficiency, HEPA filters have become widely used in medical, electronic and industrial applications. HEPA filters are composed of a various sized borosilicate fibers, which are pressed together to form a netlike structure with openings large enough for air to pass through but too small for most particulates.

What Sets Amaircare® HEPA Apart From the Competition?

Americair manufactures its own Amaircare® brand HEPA filters. The filter media comes off a roll and is pleated for optimum surface area. Filament is bonded to the filter to provide structural support and even pleat spacing. After the pleating process, the filters are enclosed in protective screens and cast in food-grade plastisol at both ends for a 100% air seal. Each finished filter is tested for 99.97% efficiency, with a laser particle counter.

Measuring in Microns

Airborne particulates are measured in microns. One micron is equal to one-millionth of a meter, or 1/25000th of an inch. To put things into perspective here are some daily items and their approximate micron sizes.

Explanation of how big is a micron. HEPA filters out up to .3 microns..
Air Pollution:
Air pollution and smog cause allergins that can be reduced with HEPA cleaners. Air pollution can aggravate respiratory and heart conditions, cause bodily irritations, sickness and even disease.

The air inside the typical home is up to 5 times more polluted than the air outside. That’s because the home is an enclosed environment full of potential sources of air pollution.

There are three main types of Air Pollution:
  1. Particulates (air pollutants that have mass): like dust, dander, pollen, and cigarette smoke
  2. Volatile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.s): which are gases from chemicals that are released into the air by various household materials and liquids.
  3. Bio-Burden: is the amount of biological material in the air, living or dead. Dead material can cause allergic reactions, living material can cause allergic reactions some can cause disease.
Allergens:

An allergy is an abnormal reaction or increased sensitivity to certain substances or "allergens." The allergic individual produces symptoms when exposed to these substances which are harmless to non-allergic people. Many people have few, if any, allergies. Others are so incredibly allergic that merely taking an aspirin or getting stung by a bee can trigger a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

Common indoor allergens:
  • house dust
  • mold
  • feathers
  • wool
  • cosmetics
  • dander or furry pets
  • tobacco smoke
  • aerosols
  • fresh paint
Indoor household air has allergins that can be reduced with HEPA cleaners.
Allergens affect your immune system

When your immune system is exposed to allergens, it produces antibodies that attach themselves to certain cells in your body. These cells are found in your respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, in your skin, and also in your blood. As part of the allergic reaction, these cells release potent chemicals such as histamine. This produces many of the familiar allergic symptoms seen in hay fever, for example -- runny eyes and nose, itching and sneezing.

What can you do to prevent allergies?

You can't prevent allergies. About all you can do is to avoid symptoms by avoiding known allergens.

If you are allergic to common outdoor/indoor allergens such as pollen, trees, dust, dander or grass there are also some simple steps you can take to find relief:

  • Keep your windows closed and avoid spending timeoutdoors when your allergies are acting up.
  • Wear a protective allergy mask when you're doing yard work.
  • Avoid fresh-cut grass.
Viruses and Bacteria:
Air pollution and smog cause allergins that can be reduced with HEPA cleaners. Biological pollutants, such as molds, bacteria, pollen, dust mites, and animal dander which promote poor indoor air quality and may be a major cause of days lost from work and school. In office buildings, heating, cooling and ventilating systems are frequent sources of biological substances which, when inhaled, lead to breathing problems.

Pneumonia:

The major types of pneumonia are bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia, and mycoplasma pneumonia. Certain diseases, such as tuberculosis, can also cause pneumonia.

People considered at high risk for pneumonia include the elderly, the very young, and those with underlying health problems, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure and sickle cell anemia. Patients with diseases that impair the immune system, such as AIDS, or patients with other chronic illnesses, such as asthma, or those undergoing cancer therapy or organ transplantation, are particularly vulnerable.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus:

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is responsible for many respiratory infections such as bronchiolitis, bronchopneumonia, and the common cold. RSV diseases are most common in young children. RSV causes approximately 90,000 hospitalizations and 4,500 deaths each year in both infants and young children (in the U.S.).

The virus is spread by hand-to-hand contact with any object harboring the pathogen. Infection is introduced by contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose. It may also be spread by droplets from a cough or sneeze.

RSV infections can be fatal in premature babies less than six months old and in infants with chronic lung, heart, or immune deficiency diseases. Infections may require hospitalization; infants experiencing severe infections may require mechanical ventilation.

Air pollution and smog cause allergins that can be reduced with HEPA cleaners. Lung Disease:

Lung disease is the number three killer in America, responsible for one in seven deaths. Lung disease and other breathing problems are the number one killer of babies younger than one year old. Today, more than 30 million Americans are living with chronic lung disease such as asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Asthma:

Asthma is a disease in which inflammation of the airways causes airflow into and out of the lungs to sometimes be restricted. In sensitive individuals, asthma symptoms can be triggered by inhaled allergens (allergy triggers) such as pet dander, dust mites, cockroach allergens, molds, or pollens. Asthma symptoms can also be triggered by respiratory infections, exercise, cold air, tobacco smoke and other pollutants, stress, food or drug allergies.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):

COPD is an umbrella term used to describe the airflow obstruction associated mainly with emphysema and chronic bronchitis causing airflow obstruction.

Long-term smoking is the most common cause of COPD, responsible for 80-90 percent of all cases. Other risk factors are heredity, secondhand smoke, air pollution, and a history of frequent childhood respiratory infections.

COPD is progressive and irreversible; there is no cure.

Prevention:

Asthma symptoms can be substantially reduced by avoiding exposure to known allergens and respiratory irritants such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, industrial dusts, and irritating fumes. Removal of these allergens and respiratory irritants from the home can be highly beneficial.

Some cases of COPD can be avoided by removing cigarette smoke and air pollutants from the home. This may also reduce the frequency respiratory illnesses.
