Double hung windows have two separate moveable window panels, each one can slide up and down. Usually only the bottom panel is pushed up for ventilation. However, the top panel can be pulled down or both can be moved for top and bottom ventilation. Usually only the bottom panel is protected. For double hung window behind sofas, next to bunk beds, etc., some people protect both panes of the window. If you want to protect the entire window, decide if you want bars going side or side or up and down. The Guardian Angel The Guardian Angel brand -V window guards can stack side by side or one above the other. When installed either way, there is a 4 inch maximum opening between guards. Since these guards remove from the mounting brackets, the windows can be washed easily. Stacking them side by side means the guard bars are vertical to the floor. Stacking them on above the other can tempt a child to climb up the guards as one would climb a ladder. Go to the casement window choosing page, insert the internal dimensions of the guard as if this was a casement window and you'll see how many guards this will take. Reverse the width and height and get the number of guards needed to stack vertically.

For technical assistance, contact Safe Home Products at 877-358-0900

1)  Measure the width inside of the window frame. (Figure 1-1)

2) Measure the depth of the window frame where the posts will be mounted (inside right and
left sides of window frame).
  • If the depth of the window frame measures less than 3/4 inches, the guard will need to be mounted on the outside of the window frame (on the window trim or wall). Add at least 1-1/2 inches to the inside window frame measurement. (The extra 1-1/2 inches is the width of both side posts)

3) Once you have determined the above measurements, please click on the link below that corresponds to the width of your window.

4) Once you receive your window guard, install it following the included instructions.

Cautionary Note
