John Sterling 1130 Series security or child safety window guards are for sleeping and non-sleeping areas. Each 1130 swing open window guard includes a locking channel and safety release lever. Window guards cannot be removed from the window. Bar spacing: 3.5 inches. Install 1120 series guards vertically or horizontally in double hung, sliding, or casement windows. Option: padlock or secured to the wall for security and fall prevention. 1130 Series window guards include 2 bar (7 inches), 3 bar (11 inches), 4 bar (14 inches), 5 bar (18 inches), 6 bar (22 inches) and 8 bar (30 inches) window guards. Sizes given are exact fits. Add 4 inches to sizes in parentheses to protect a window safely with a 4 inch or less open space from bottom bar to sill or frame and from top bar to the top of opening or side of the frame. The expansion for all 1130 series guards is 24 to 42 inches: the maximum height for a vertical installation would be 42 inches. Note: when you stack guards side by side or one above the other, remember that each guard opens separately. Contact us if you have 2 or more double hung or single hung windows mounted in the same frame and need information about obtaining a vertical bar between the windows in order to mount them securely in that frame.

Follow the Step by Step Instructions Below to Properly Guard Your Windows
For technical assistance, contact Safe Home Products at 877-358-0900 or e-mail us at sales@safehomeproducts.com with the number and type of windows to be guarded and the dimensions of the opening to be protected.

1)  For vertical mounting, measure the interior window frame height. For horizontal mounting, push bottom pane as far up as it will go. Measure the opening. For protection of both panes of a double or single hung window, measure interior window frame as for a vertical mount. Then choose vertical or horizontal mounting by inserting measurements as indicated below.

2) Measure the depth of the window frame where the posts will be mounted (inside top and bottom of window frame).
  • If there are shades, blinds, etc. mounted in the frame that may interfere with the guard or if the depth of the window frame measures less than 3/4 inches, the guard will need to be mounted on the outside of the window frame (on the window trim or wall). Add at least 1-1/2 inches to the inside window frame height measurement. The extra 1-1/2 inches is the width of both end posts.

3) Measure the overall window width.

4)Once you have the above measurements, select the width and height of your window in the table. The Wizard shows you which guards will protect your window.

5) After the window guards arrive, use the included instructions for installation.

Cautionary Note
A maximum 4 inch opening meets most national safety codes. This means no more than a 4-inch opening anywhere in the guarded area. This includes the area between the top bar on the window guard and the bottom of the opened window panel when mounted horizontally. It also includes the area between the vertical bar on the window guard and the sliding panel of the window when fully opened when mounted vertically. (See illustrations below)

The above illustrations shows a casement window guarded with two 5-bar guards, mounted vertically side by side (left) and a double hung window guarded with one 4-bar guard, mounted horizontally (right).
