Safe-T-Alert 40-411 Combustible Gas Detector
Safe-T-Alert 40-411: Propane Gas Detector & Methane Gas Detector
MADE IN THE USA
Please Remember:
Gas detectors sense ONLY uncombusted gas. They provide NO protection against Carbon Monoxide which is produced as a by-product of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. Click here for the companion CO detector.
Safe-T-Alert's 40-411 Dual Liquid Propane Gas (LP) and
Natural Gas (Methane) Detector was developed to provide
protection from hidden gas leaks that can explode with a spark. The Safe-T-Alert Propane Methane Detector should be located near sources of a potential gas leak. For example,
install the detector near a water heater, furnace, or stove/oven that is heated by natural gas,
propane gas, or methane gas.
Unlike some combustible gas detectors, this unit does NOT directly plug into a wall outlet. The 65 inch cord
permits proper mounting near the source of gas for more accurate detection.
Propane gas is heavier than air. The detector should be mounted within 4 to 20 inches of the
floor to protect against propane gas leaks.
Methane gas (natural gas) is lighter than air. Mount the detector within 6 inches from the
ceiling or on the ceiling at least 12 inches from a wall.
The STA-40-411 uses the latest microprocessor technology. The Underwriters Laboratories
tests approved residential/RV usage only for Propane Gas and Methane Gas. This unit also detects
acetone, alcohol, butane, and gasoline, all of which be present in your home.
Caution: Places where the gas alarm should NOT be installed:
- DO NOT install behind furniture, drapes, in closets or in areas that will block
airflow to the detector.
- DO NOT install within 12 inches of exterior doors, windows, heating or cooling
return cents, or other drafty areas or corners.
- DO NOT install in or on outside walls or within 12 inches of corners.
- DO NOT connect to a wall switch controlled power outlet or to a ground fault circuit.
Units require minimal maintenance. Test the circuit weekly. Test by pushing test switch. The alarm will
sound and the LED will flash red.
If an alarm sounds:
- Turn off all gas appliances; extinguish all flames and smoking materials. Evacuate,
leaving doors and windows open.
- Turn off the propane tank/ central natural gas valve.
- Determine and repair the source of the leak. Seek professional help if necessary.
Caution:
- This unit requires power.
- This unit indicates presence of propane or methane gas ONLY at the sensor.
Explosive gas may be present in other areas.
- This detector may not be heard. If mounted in a remote location, behind closed doors, or
in a home with a person with hearing impairment, the alarm may not be heard.

Description
|
| InteleCheck Circuit |
Eliminates false alarms from momentary exposure to Propane Gas, Natural
Gas, aerosol cleaners, hair spray and other flammable gases. An 8 second double-check circuit is used to distinguish a gas leak from a momentary gas exposure.
|
| Long Life, Self Cleaning Sensor |
Maintenance free built-in sensor. Sensor is tripped at less then
25% of the lower explosive limit for natural gas, propane gas, and butane. |
| Loud 85dB Alarm |
Alerts for presence of a potentially dangerous gas leak. |
| Test/Reset Button |
Will temporarily silence alarm during ventilation. Tests all detector functions
with one touch. No Dangerous Gas Required. |
| Warranty |
5 Year Limited Warranty |
| Installation |
Attaches to wall with two screws. "Plug-it-in" installation |
| Micro Current Technology |
Wall Transformer (120VAC to 12VDC) consumes only 3.8 watts of energy. I.E., only 33 Kwh
per year costs less than US $3.00 per year to operate.
|
| Power Alternatives |
RV Models are available which operate on 12V DC.
|
| Operational Temperature Range |
-31°F to +150°F (-35°C to +66°C). |
| Operating Relative Humidity Range |
15% to 93% |
| Approval |
UL Listed as a "Single Station Propane/Methane Detector" to 1484 requirements. A
Propane Gas / Natural Gas Alarms for Residential and Unconditioned Area Use.
UL file number 151449. Use homes, and 'unconditioned' areas
such as garages, boiler/furnace rooms, warehouses, barns, offices, etc.
|
| Mute Circuit |
Silence the alarm temporarily for two minutes. For added safety the Red LED will
continue to flash and the alarm will beep every 30 seconds until the gas has cleared.
|
| Re-Alarm During Mute |
If gas re-enters the area during the Mute cycle, the detector sounds the
alarm 4 times and the red LED will signal an new alarm condition.
|
| Safe-T-Lock Malfunction Circuit |
If a malfunction occurs, the detector flashes an alternating Red/Green visual signal
and sounds once every 15 seconds. A malfunction cannot be over ridden by the Mute switch.
This operating feature gives an immediate identification of the type of alarm and assists
service and response personnel.
