3-3.1 Smoke Detector
"At least one integral battery-operated smoke detector shall be installed in each
travel trailer or motor home that has a sleeping area separated from the living
and cooking area by a door. RVIA Effective Date 4/96, Revised 9/99."
Test your smoke alarms in your recreational vehicles or travel trailers on at least
a monthly basis. Use metal wound or copper wound batteries such as Duracells in
smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms that take 9 volt batteries. Metal wound
batteries operate more effectively at lower temperatures. Also these batteries "warm
up" faster. Home safety is important whether your home is a house or on the road
in an RV or trailer. Install multiple smoke detectors in larger units or in units
where doors are closed.

and boats. If you live in an RV, boat, or trailer, install at least one carbon monoxide
