| WHERE TO INSTALL CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS | |
WHERE TO INSTALL CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
TO PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING:
- Inside each bedroom where the occupant closes the door while sleeping.
- In each room with wood, gas, coal or oil fireplaces and appliances.
- In the garage.
- Top of each staircase.
- Wall Mounting: Top of Alarm No More than Six Feet from the Floor.
- Ceiling Mount: As Close as Possible to Center of Hallway or Room. If Not Possible,
Mount Edge of Alarm At Least 4 Inches from Any Wall.
- Install at least 10 feet from bathrooms.
LOCATIONS TO AVOID INSTALLING CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
TO PREVENT NUISANCE ALARMS:
- Within 5 feet of cooking appliance, furnace or garage.
- Near open window or door: May delay CO from reaching alarm.
- In damp, very humid areas or next to bathrooms with showers.
- In very cold, very hot, or unheated buildings where temperature can go below or
above the operating range of the unit.
- In areas where household cleaning supplies or similar contaminants are used without
good ventilation.
NOTE: TWO units, one near the bedrooms and one in the furnace/hot
water heater area, gives MINIMUM protection against carbon monoxide poisoning. Closed
doors muffle alarm sounds even at the 85 decibel level. Older children and sound
sleeping adults are unlikely to be awakened by faint alarm sounds.

Warning: |
Passive warning devices do NOT sound alarms and must be viewed to obtain indications
of carbon monoxide conditions. A UL approved detector such as the COSTAR 9 volt
battery powered Carbon Monoxide Alarm is recommended for more complete protection.

| COSTAR Model 9RV Recreational Vehicle Carbon Monoxide Alarm | |
COSTAR 9RV Models are white, circular, and powered by 9 Volt Batteries (Battery
Included). To give greater protection against carbon monoxide poisoning, these carbon
monoxide detectors cannot be mounted without a battery installed. RV standards
require a greater operational range for temperature and humidity than the COSTAR
9SIR.
