Carbon Monoxide Alarms Protect Against Death If you heat with gas, oil or coal, you need CO alarms in your home or business. Please Remember: Carbon monoxide detectors sense carbon monoxide, produced by incomplete burning of fossil fuels like gas, wood, coal, etc.. Carbon monoxide alarms do not protect against raw gas leaks (either natural gas or propane).
