DIRECTIONS FOR USE
PLACEMENT
BATTERIES:
The Super Bark Free uses four (4) "D" size alkaline batteries (not included) or 50ft. power supply adapter (included). Batteries last approximately 2000 sound releases under normal conditions.
To Install Batteries
The placement of the Bark Free is important because ultrasonic sound patterns do not penetrate solid materials. The ultrasonic sound is deflected or absorbed within the environment. Hard surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal, plastic, and window glass will deflect the sound. Soft surfaces such as grass, plants, or bedding can absorb the sound. The unit should be placed with no obstructions between the Super Bark Free and the dog(s). Think "open line of sight".
MOUNTING THE UNIT
The Super Bark Free is weather resistant and splash proof (except the Remote Control and AC Adaptor).
1. The best place to position the Super Bark Free is slightly above and facing the dog. Super Bark Free can detect dog’s barking up to a range of 20 feet. Make sure your dogs cannot reach the unit to prevent damage. Keep extension cord out of reach. Super Bark Free can be mounted or placed freestanding by extending the metal stand at the back of the unit.
2. Super Bark Free may be triggered by loud sounds other than barking, do not mount it in noisy or high wind areas. Beware exposing the unit to water, it may temporarily reduce the sensitivity of the microphone and speakers.
NOTE:
The operation temperature of Super Bark Free is -10˚C to 50˚C. To prevent malfunction, do not place the unit near any heat source.
1. Turn knob on battery cover counter clockwise.
3. Insert 4 "D" batteries in the correct orientation.
4. Replace knob and turn clockwise.
NOTE:
When the Red LED Power Indicator is flashing, the unit is low in power.
There is also an input jack for the power adapter. It is located on the back on the left side of the unit, protected by a plastic plug. AC adapter specifications: 200 mA/DC 6/V (not included). Please contact your local dealer or purchase directly from Koolatron by calling 407.857.8786, toll free at 888.353.6835 or Koolatron onthewebatwww.koolatron.com .

DEVICE INSTALLATION
TESTING THE DEVICE
1. Use batteries or AC adaptor to power Super Bark Free.
2. Press the ON/OFF button on the Remote Control (optional) and see if the main unit can be switched ON/OFF.
NOTE:
• The effective range of the Remote Control is 30 feet.
• Either Remote Control or Timer setting can turn ON/OFF the unit.
3. Press the Test Button, it will lower the ultrasonic frequencies to an audible human level and let you hear if the unit is working or not.
NOTE:
• To avoid hearing damage, do not use the Test Button for
long periods of time and do not allow children to play with the Test Button.
• Test Button can be used although the main unit is off.
SETTING “ULTRASONIC” / “AUDIBLE”
1. Make sure the “Ultrasonic” sound is set after you have tested the unit.
2. Use only “Audible” setting when testing (prolonged use of “Audible” sound setting may cause noise and create disturbance to others).
NOTE:
The output frequency of Ultrasonic Sound is 19KHz - 23KHz and the Audio Sound is 8KHz +/- 3KHz, over 120dB.
ADJUSTING THE SENSITIVITY
1. Set the sound selector to “Audible”. This will lower the tone frequency and you can hear the tone.
2. Place the unit away from you and listen. If you do not hear the tone each time you hear barking, adjust to a high sensitivity level, or place the unit closer to the dog. If you hear the tone without hearing the barking, adjust to a lower sensitivity level.
3. When you have adjusted the sensitivity level, reset the Sound Selector to “Ultrasonic”.
NOTE:
• Ensure that background noise level is not too high or it will cause continuous triggering. You can correct this by lowering the sensitivity level.
• Try to use the lowest possible sensitivity setting that will respond consistently to barking. If it is set too high, other sounds may trigger the unit. The “Novel Stimulus” aspect of the tone will be lost and your dogs will learn to ignore the Super Bark Free.
• Do not try to instigate barking from your dog to find out if Super Bark Free will stop them from barking. A dog will always bark if harassed.

ACTIVATION MICROPHONE AND LEDS:
The activation microphone is located on the face of the Super Bark Free under the Test Button. See Illustration. The activation microphone should be kept free of obstruction or dirt. The activation microphone in the Super Bark Free just detects sound, it can not tell the difference between different types of sounds.
WHAT RESULTS TO EXPECT:
Properly setting the "Sensitivity" switch to activate the unit only when your dog barks helps maintain the "Novel Stimulus" aspect of the Super Bark Free. Dogs learn to associate the loud, irritating sound produced by the unit as being a result of barking, and stop barking to stop the Super Bark Free sound. Always remember, the activation microphone in the Super Bark Free just detects sound, it can not tell the difference between different types of sounds.
Do not try to instigate barking from your dog to see if the Super Bark Free is working. A DOG WILL ALWAYS BARK IF HARASSED.
Most dogs find that being close to an activated Super Bark Free is very distressing and uncomfortable. Sometimes older dogs or breeds with congenital hearing problems are unable to hear the ultrasonic sounds emitted and ignore the Super Bark Free. This is also true of situations where there is a lot of other noise close to the dogs. The ultrasonic sound emitted is drowned out by the other noise.
There are no 100% perfect cures that stop 100% of the barking, this includes the Super Bark Free. Within a week or two, if you haven’t noticed a significant reduction in the overall amount of barking, especially at night, then you may have a more serious problem than just simple unnecessary nuisance and boredom barking. Some of the more severe problems include:
Protective Barking - They may bark at trespassers or neighbors that tease or threaten them. This may include people knocking on your door or people walking through your yard.
Dogs Trained to Bark - They may inadvertently be trained to bark, by
receiving attention (both positive and negative) for barking.
Feeding Time and Work Time Barking - We recommend that you disconnect Bark Free when feeding. When walking one dog and leaving others behind, get out of sight as soon as possible.
Hearing Problems - Deaf dogs will not react to the Super Bark Free. Dogs with high frequency hearing damage may react to the audible setting. However you and your neighbors may hear it.
High Stress Environments - Bark Free is not recommended for boarding kennels, animal shelters and grooming salons. These locations generate protective and fear barking.
