HOW TO OPERATE: When gas service is required, turn the gas detector on by sliding its switch up to the ON position. A pinging or ticking sound will be heard. This is the warm-up and self-check mode. After 20 to 60 seconds, the green GAS ON indicator will begin to flash indicating the gas valve is open from your LP gas tank to your gas appliances. LIGHT ALL PILOT LIGHTS . Slide the switch to the OFF position to turn off the gas detector and close the gas valve. If the detector has gone unused for an extended period of time, it may produce an alarm sound at the end of the warm-up. If this occurs, reset the gas detector and turn it back on.

If LP gas contacts your gas detector, your gas detector will sound the alarm and turn off the gas valve. The alarm will continue to sound until the detector is turned off. The gas flow will remain off until the detector is reset and the gas vapors are no longer present. Should this occur, air out your coach, then reset your gas detector. If gas is still present when reset, the alarm will again sound. Have a qualified LP Gas Dealer or RV Service Center make the necessary repairs to the source of the gas leak. The detector will detect LP gas and sound an alert at 1/5th the LEL (Lower Explosion Level) for LP gas. This device is intended for detection of LP gas only.

TO TURN OFF: Slide the switch to the OFF (reset) position to turn off the gas detector and close the gas valve. Always turn off the propane at the tank when the coach is not in use.

CHECK OUT PROCEDURE: Your gas detector is an electronic instrument designed to provide years of trouble free service. To check its sensitivity to LP gas, use a butane lighter as follows: Do not rotate the flint wheel, just press the gas release button and point the gas exit jet into the gas sensing area under the flashing green light of your gas detector. The alert will sound and the GAS ON indicator will cease to light indicating the gas is turned off. To reset, turn the detector off, fan the gas sensing hole to clear the gas vapors, and then reset the detector. Check all pilot lights.

This test procedure should be repeated every week or everytime the coach is taken on a trip, whichever occurs first.

NOTE: After the gas has been turned off, the pilot lights may burn for several minutes to exhaust the gas from the gas piping.

ABOUT YOUR LP GAS DETECTOR: Liquid Propane (LP) Gas is heavier than air and will settle to the lowest point which is generally the floor of your coach. The detector is also sensitive to other fumes such as hair spray of which most contain butane as the propellant. Butane, like propane, is heavier than air and will settle to the floor level where it will be detected.

Other combustibles which will be detected include liquor, alcohol, deodorants, colognes, perfumes, wine, adhesives, lacquer, kerosene, gasoline, glues, and most cleaning agents and the propellants of aerosol cans. Most fumes from these chemicals are lighter than air and float upwards. They will not be detected by your gas detector unless sprayed or exposed directly into the sensor. However, if a strong cleaning agent is used on the floor, the alert may sound and turn off the gas valve. If this occurs, complete your cleaning and air out your coach before resetting the detector.

Your gas detector is powered by your RV battery and/or your converter. It draws less current than drawn by one instrument panel lamp. Your detector will operate to detect gas and continue your gas service until your battery is drained down to 10 volts. (Your low battery condition is 10.4 volts). When your battery has been drained down, the gas will be turned off. The only way to reset the detector and restore the gas service is to recharge your battery. Check all pilots after restoring gas service.

If the power source is disconnected, or if the power is otherwise interrupted, the detector light will go out and the gas will be shut off. When the power source is reconnected, the detector will alarm and the gas will remain off until the detector is reset. The detector can only be reset when power is present. MOST COMMON CAUSES OF APPARENT MALFUNCTION:

1. New Coach Odor: The glues and other materials used in manufacturing the coach produce vapors which will be detected and cause the gas to be turned off. Air out the coach thoroughly and reset the detector.

2. Keeps Beeping: The gas detector beeps about once every minute - even when it is turned off. The problem is a weak battery in the smoke detector which causes the smoke detector to produce short beeps which sound similar to the start up pinging sound of the LP Gas Detector. This is a high pitch and bounces off the walls, making its location very hard to pinpoint. Replace the battery in the smoke detector.

3. Hair spray triggers the detector: Most aerosol hair sprays use butane gas as the propellent. Butane, like propane, is heavier than air and will settle to the floor level where it will be detected. The detector is doing its job as butane is combustible.

4. NO GAS: Detector is turned on but there is no gas.

A. Is the battery fully charged ?

B. Is there any LP gas in the LP gas tank ?

C. Is the hand valve on the LP tank turned on ?

5. The detector will not set: This means that after the detector is turned on and completes its warm-up period, it goes into its gas alert mode. See item 1, "New Coach Odor" in this column. This will also occur in the presence of gas, a low battery, or may be caused by unsecured detergent containers or clean�ing rags frequently stored in cabinets behind the detector.

6. Other Gases: Other gases which can cause the detector to respond with an alert, include the vapors from any fuel, liquor, alcohol, deodorants, colognes, perfumes, wine, adhesives, lacquer, and most clean�ing agents.

After reviewing the above, if the problem still exists, call CCI for assistance.

SERVICE: See your RV Dealer or a qualified LP Gas Service Center should service be required. If they are not familiar with this product, have them call CCI for assistance. If service is not available in your area, call CCI, you will be given a return authorization number. To remove the detector, first disconnect the battery and converter. Then remove the two mounting screws which hold the detector to the wall. Pull the detector forward and disconnect the three wires connecting the detector. Tape over the three wires left in the wall to prevent them from shorting. Mail the detector to the address on the back of the detector. Allow 10 days for service and return. Be sure to include your return address and a daytime phone number with area code.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION: The detector is powered by two power sources. This may be two batteries or one battery and one converter. When using a converter, connect to the "filtered" side of the converter. The detector will operate from the source with the highest voltage. This means that if one battery should fail, the detector will operate from the second battery or the converter. When the detector is turned on, the circuit is tested and the air sampled for traces of combustible gas. If all conditions are correct, the detector sends a pulse to the valve. This pulse opens the valve and allows gas to flow into the gas piping of the coach. After the pulse has opened the valve, the detector holds the valve open with a very low voltage. This is done to conserve on battery power. If the converter is not connected and the battery is weak, the valve will not open. If the battery drains down while the detector is operating, the valve will be closed.

BATTERY DRAIN: The 7719 draws 162 mA. (0.162 Amps) when turned on. This is less current than drawn by one instrument panel lamp. If left operating for a period of months, the battery will drain. The detector should be turned off when the coach is not in use.

This warranty shall be for the term of two year from and after the date of the first sale by a dealer to the consumer.
