John Sterling 1120 Series Window Guards are security guards for use only on single hung or double hung style windows. 1120 series guards are permanently fixed (do not open) and cannot be removed to wash windows. 1120 series are New York City Approved #HDWG 05-87-86 and HDWG-04-93-09 for non-sleeping rooms. Never install an 1120 series window guard in a window accessing a fire escape. Space between bars is 4.5 inches. Maximum allowable opening in NYC is 4.5 inches between the first bar. Install a window stop so that the window does not open more than 4.5 inches above the top bar. Check with your local building inspector for local code requirements if you do not live in New York City. Double hung windows have 2 separate window panels, each slide up and down in its separate track. Both panels can be slid to the center so that ventilation comes from both the top and the bottom of the window. Usually, only the bottom panel opening is protected. Single hung windows have one moving panel, the bottom panel. |
