John Sterling 1170 Series Maximum Window Safety Guards protect both
sleeping and non-sleeping areas. The 1170 series have sturdy angular bars that are
resistant to bolt cutters. The space between each pair of window bars is 3.5 inches.
Each window guards swings open and can be lifted from the mounts. These John Sterling
MAX guards have dual locking brackets plus a fire safety release pin option. Included
with each guard is a locking channel, a lock guard and a safety release lever. Install
vertically or horizontally in double hung, sliding, or casement windows. 1170 series
guards include 5 sizes: 3 bar (12 inches by 24 - 42 inches expansion), 5 bar (21
inches by 24 - 42 inches expansion), 5 bar long (21 inches by 40 - 60 inch expansion,
5 bar extra long (21 inches by 58 - 76 inch expansion and 7 bar (30 inches by 24
- 42 inch expansion).

1) Measure the height inside of the window frame. ![]() |
2) Measure the depth of the window frame
where the posts will be mounted (inside top and bottom of window frame).

3) Measure the overall window width.

4)4)After measuring the windows, select
first the width and next the window height. The Wizard then displays which single
or combination of guards will fit the window. is right for you.

5) Once you receive your window guard(s),
install it following the included instructions.

Cautionary Note The maximum safe opening is 4 inches. This includes the area between the top bar on the window guard and the bottom of the opened window panel when mounted horizontally. It also includes the area between the vertical bar on the window guard and the sliding panel of the window when fully opened when mounted vertically. (See illustrations below) |
